I have been working hard getting ready for the Eagle Rock Art Guild's summer Sidewalk Art Show.  (The show is in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  I will be there Saturday July 23rd from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.  Come and see me.)  There is so much to do - title cards, lists, packing, and of course painting new work.  Silvertip is my newest artwork.  On a trip with my cousin to Yellowstone National Park we stopped in the Grizzly and Wold Discovery Center.  This was one of the bears we had the privilege of watching.  He was playing with the other bears and seem to be smiling.

This painting is on a 6 x 6 inch board.  I have it for sale on Daily Paintworks.  Or you can purchase prints, cards, and other fun items like bags and T-shirts from my website.

The Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington has some great animals.  This Spectacled Owl was one of the many birds we were able to meet up close.  I took artistic licence with his surroundings - I wanted him to feel at home.

The painting is a 6 x 6 inch oil on board.

The Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington, is fabulous.  In the aviary, visitors can feed the birds from small paper cups with nectar.  My oldest son was particularly good with the birds.  This painting was painted from a reference picture taken 2009.

This painting is 6 x 6 inches.  Visit Daily Paintworks to purchase the original or to my website to purchase a print or other fun items.

When I saw the Daily Paintworks' The summer Vacation Challenge's, I remembered a scene from a trip my cousins took me on to Palisades Lake, Idaho in the fall.  One of my cousins has a boat and he motored the rest of us around the lake.  We saw this little inlet with a couple of boats and tents in the background.  I thought, "What a cool camping experience."  I just had to paint it.

As an activity for the Eagle Rock Art Guild (located in Idaho Falls, Idaho) in 2014, we went to Swan Valley, Idaho - where a couple of members have cabins - to do some plein aire painting.  It had rained the day before and the clouds were still hanging around when we went to paint.  (Most of it blew out by noon.)  This was from one of the reference pictures I took when I wondered around during lunch.

This painting is a 5 x 7 oil on canvas board.  I have put this painting up for auction on Daily Paintworks. Click here to bid.

For this painting I used one of the references from the time my cousin took me on a suprise trip to Intermittent Spring located in Swift Creek Canyon in Star Valley, near Afton Wyoming late in the fall.
This oil painting is 5 x 7.  I have put it up for auction on Daily Paintworks.  Click here to bid.
I have spent some time the last couple of weeks doing a commission piece.
I think it turned out well.

My family and I were invited to attend the War Bonnet Roundup in Idaho Falls, ID in 2014.  I was lucky enough to get a press pass to go behind the scenes and take pictures of the livestock.  I find it amazing that these placid animals laying around or milling about would become bucking and twisting mountains of muscle trying to get a cowboy off their backs.

This painting is 7 x 5 oil on canvas board.  I put it up for auction on Daily Paintworks.  Click Here to Bid

While I was visiting Nevada City, Montana, I saw this cute little guy under a sign (I know up close it looks like a drain). Nevada City is an old mining ghost town that has been turned into an outdoor historical museum. He was just one of the many that was flitting about. Click Here to Buy.
The painting I created is Home Under the Sign. The size is 6 x 6.

I saw the Explore Your Garden painting challenge in DPW and remembered the perfect reference. I took many photos when my family and I went to Nevada City, Montana. Nevada City was an old mining ghost town that has been turned into an outdoor historical museum. As we explored the attraction, finches fluttered about. One of the cute little guys landed on a wooden garden fence and I could not help but take his picture with the intent of painting him

I painted him in oil on a 5 x 7 canvas board. He is up for auction on Daily Paintworks. Click Here to Bid

I had to come up with a minute and a half audio slideshow for one of my college courses, so I did something interesting to me - a video on how I create art.  I had started the project over Thanksgiving break and finished the video this week.  Click Here to View

The wolf was one I had seen in the Bear and Wolf Recovery Center.

In going back to school this fall I have not had much opportunity to paint.  I finally was able to carve out some time and indulge myself.  Out For A Walk is the result.

Well here is what it looks like.  It was quite the journey.
I will be entering this in the Eastern Idaho State Fair this year.

There is a fun little hike not far from where I live that has some great views.  This is a small area at the beginning of the walk.
It is up for sale on Daily Paintworks.  Click Here to Buy

The original is a 5 x 7 oil on canvas board.
This is one of the many bison that was close to the road on my trip into Yellowstone National Park in 2015.  This bison's mane of hair actually fell over in the way I painted it.  My son said he looked like Elvis, so I called him Elvis the Bison.

The original sold, but prints, canvases, and more are available through my Website

Sunday, July 19, 2015

I have been busy of late with my two jobs and getting ready for the Eagle Rock Art Guild's Side Walk Art Festival, so I have not spent as much time promoting my new paintings as I should (besides which, it has been rainy and overcast - not the best for taking pictures).  I have managed to get a few new works done, and here is a quick snapshot with some of my pieces.  If anyone would like to see and visit with me during the show, I will have my booth by the river in Idaho Falls, Idaho on Saturday July 25th.
Hopefully by Monday, I will have good images of my newest paintings.

On the same trip with my cousin to Yellowstone National Park and the Grizzly and Wolk Discovery Center that we saw the wolves (one of which I painted so far), we saw saw bears.  Intermittent rain showers did not keep these bears from playing in their pool.  They reminded me of my brothers.

The painting is a 5 x 7 oil on canvas board.  I sold this painting by auction on Daily Paintworks.  I will also have prints, cards, and more through my website soon.

Saturday, June 13, 2015
